Struggling Hertha sack Luhukay

Jos Luhukay has become the fifth Bundesliga coach to lose his job this season after Hertha Berlin dispensed with his services.

Relegation-threatened Hertha Berlin have sacked coach Jos Luhukay follwing Wednesday s 1-0 Bundesliga defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.

The loss marked Hertha s 11th in the league this season and dropped the capital club to second bottom in the division with just 18 points.

Dutchman Luhukay was appointed in July 2012 and led them to a second promotion in three seasons in his maiden campaign in charge.

Hertha finished 11th last term but, after claiming just five league wins in 2014-15, they have decided to part company with Luhukay and assistants Markus Gellhaus and Rob Reekers.

A statement on Hertha s website read: Hertha BSC…

Rumour Has It: Chelsea emerge as contenders to sign Tottenham´s Kane

Harry Kane s future continues to be a hot topic of debate, with a number of heavyweight clubs lining up to sign the prolific striker should he indicate he wants to leave Tottenham.

Following strong links with the likes of Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, the England international is also now reportedly on Chelsea s list of targets.

The Blues have struggled for goals this term, despite a huge outlay on attacking talent over the past two transfer windows, and need to address that issue ahead of next season.

With Kane s contract due to expire at the end of next season, Tottenham s hand may be forced somewhat should a huge bid come in when the window reopens for business.

The Kessie of death! Milan optimism misplaced as Inter seize control of Scudetto

Franck Kessie had touched the ball only five times before Milan fell behind to Inter at San Siro.

The midfielder proclaimed beforehand that the Rossoneri had no reason to be fearful going into the 174th Milan derby in Serie A history. Far from it. We ll win the derby and return to the top of the table, he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. We re a group that has grown through difficulty. We believe in the Scudetto.

That pre-match optimism vanished after those first five minutes on Sunday. So, too, did the sense that this Milan really do believe they can end a 10-year wait to win Serie A. With one swing of Romelu Lukaku s left foot – his crossing remains a hugely underappreciated skill – Lautaro Martinez had an easy header and Inter had it all in their hands: the momentu…

´Exciting´ Maddison and Mount give Southgate different options

Gareth Southgate hopes Mason Mount and James Maddison will inject midfield creativity into his England squad.

Mount, 20, and Maddison have impressed for Chelsea and Leicester City during the opening weeks of this season and account for half of the uncapped players selected for the Three Lions Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo, along with Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Aston Villa centre-back Tyrone Mings.

Southgate helmed England s run to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup and the Nations League Finals, an impressive feat undermined by his side lacking some cutting edge at the business end of the competitions.

Mount who has scored two in three matches for Chelsea on the back of impressive loan spells at Vitesse and Derby Coun…

FA Cup final given end-of-season billing

The FA Cup final will be restored as the closing fixture of the English domestic league season next term.

The showpiece match will take place at Wembley on May 17, one week after the climax of the Premier League season.

It marks a return to tradition for the world s oldest knockoput competition and will be the first time since 2010 that the cup final has taken the end-of-season slot.

The 2013 final took place when eventual winners Wigan still had two league games to play and despite securing their first major piece of silverware with a shock victory over Manchester City, the club went on to be relegated.

Manchester City s cup triumph in 2011, when they beat Stoke City 1-0, was overshadowed somewhat by their bitter rivals Manchester United having secured their rec…

Diaby in line for new Arsenal deal

Arsene Wenger has admitted that Abou Diaby could be offered a new deal that would see him remain at the Emirates Stadium beyond the current season.

The midfielder, whose current contract is set to expire in the summer, has failed to make a single league appearance this season with his only game time coming in League Cup third round defeat to Southampton, where he was substituted after sixty-seven minutes.

Since arriving at Arsenal in January 2006, Diaby has played for the club one hundred and eighty times in all competitions, scoring nineteen goals.

Internationally, he has been capped sixteen times for France, with his last appearances coming in a 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over Finland back in September 2012.

Man City defender Laporte undergoes knee surgery

In a post on his Instagram page, Laporte wrote: After successful completion of yesterday evening s surgery, I would like to say thanks for all your messages of support during the last few days. I feel truly loved and so thankful about it.

I am sad for not being able to join the national team and to not fulfil my dream of making the debut with Les Bleus. I would like to thank the coach for being so supportive.

From now on we start counting down the days to go back to the pitch.

The 25-year-old s absence will leave City light on central defensive options following the departure of club captain Vincent Kompany at the end of the 2018-19 campaign.

John Stones has only featured once in the 2019-20 Premier League due to a hamstring injury but is expected to r…

Wenger questions Chelsea´s decision to sell Mata

Arsene Wenger has questioned the reasons behind Chelsea s openness to selling Juan Mata to Manchester United.

Mata is said to be heading to Manchester for a medical on Thursday after United reportedly agreed a club-record fee of around £37million for the Spain international on Wednesday.

The former Valencia man was Chelsea s player of the season two years in a row after moving to Stamford Bridge in August 2011, but has found himself out of favour since Jose Mourinho returned to the club ahead of this campaign.

And Wenger believes Mata is only being allowed to move to Old Trafford because Chelsea have already played United twice in the Premier League this season, most recently in their 3-1 home win last Sunday.

Yes I am (surprised) because Juan Mata is a great pl…

Kuranyi’s pardon gets Beckenbauer backing

(GSM) Former Germany World Cup winning captain Franz Beckenbauer has urged Germany coach Joachim Loew to pardon Schalke 04 striker Kevin Kuranyi and recall the top Bundesliga scorer to the World Cup squad.

Loew removed Kuranyi from the national team in October 2008, and since stood firm by his decision to never recall the striker again as long as he is the coach.

Kuranyi, being unhappy for being unable to make the bench for a World Cup qualifying match against Russia, left the stadium at halftime and had his friends collect his stuff from the team hotel.

The national team is not a private affair of a few individuals that have a problem with each other, Beckenbauer wrote on his Monday column for Bild newspaper.

The national team belongs to all of us. …

Leonardo: ‘Ronaldino is the best in the world’

what I have drawn from the game was:

1- Dinho s early ogal was a good shot but a bit lucky, you know as it was deflected into the goal by a Man Utd player. Nevertheless, he put on quite a display for his fans in the 1st half his efforts were just splendid ! But, in the 2nd half the entire Milan team faded away, which is exactly the kind of inconsistency Ronaldinho is showing and what is preventing him from becoming the best in world.

2-Fletcher was the truely the man behind the win providing 2 vital crosses to Rooney who scored two awesome headers from them. Which really confirms my belief that he is one of the best as Ser Alex says.

3- Carrick made a very good game. I mean his defencive skills were just super-vital to United s win, despite his role in the Milan…
