´Why can´t Newcastle dream of Premier League title?´ – Given

Shay Given sees no reason why high-flying Newcastle United cannot dream of Premier League glory following their victory over Leicester City.

The Magpies climbed to second in the table – four points behind leaders Arsenal – after a commanding 3-0 win at the King Power Stadium thanks to goals from Chris Wood, Miguel Almiron and Joelinton.

Newcastle have now recorded six successive Premier League victories for the first time since doing so on the way to a fifth-placed finish under Alan Pardew 10 years ago.

With one game remaining in 2022, Newcastle have won 21 matches this calendar year, their most since 23 wins in 1995. They finished second in 1995-96.

Former goalkeeper Given, who racked up 462 appearances at St James Park between 1997 and 2009, believe…

´It´s the truth´ – Ten Hag admits Man Utd over-reliant on Rashford

Erik ten Hag acknowledged Manchester United are too reliant on Marcus Rashford after the forward s latest goal guided the Red Devils to a 1-0 win over Brentford on Wednesday.

United ended a three-game run without a win – or a goal – in the Premier League as Rashford s close-range finish was enough to down the resolute Bees.

Rashford has scored 15 of United s 42 Premier League goals this season, while his total of 11 strikes since the World Cup is more than any other player in the competition.

Asked whether United have been over-reliant on Rashford this season, Ten Hag told BBC Sport: Yes, it s the truth.

But we know other players can score as well. Bruno [Fernandes] can score as well. We have many more players across the squad who can score.

Vardy signs one-year contract extension with Leicester

Jamie Vardy has signed a one-year contract extension to stay at Leicester City until June 2025.

The 37-year-old signed for the Foxes in 2012 from non-league Fleetwood Town and is third on the club s all-time top scorer list with 190 goals in 464 appearances.

He won the Premier League with Leicester in 2015-16 and also lifted the FA Cup, Community Shield and two Championship titles.

Last season, he scored 20 goals in all competitions, helping them get promoted back to the top-flight as champions after just one season out of the Premier League.

Maidstone’s FA Cup run ended by ruthless Coventry as Ellis Simms nets hat-trick

Ellis Simms ended Maidstone’s FA Cup fairytale as his first-half hat-trick helped fire Coventry into the quarter-finals.

The striker’s treble and Fabio Tavares’ late double sent the Sky Blues into the last eight for the first time since 2009 after a 5-0 win.

It was a disappointing climax to the Stones’ historic Cup run, which had seen them win seven ties – including knocking out Barrow, Stevenage and Ipswich – to become the first team outside the top five divisions to reach the fifth round since Blyth Spartans in 1978.

George Elokobi’s National League South side became heroes following their fourth-round win at Portman Road but there was never any danger of a repeat at Coventry.

The Sky Blues were determined to avoid suffering the same fate …

Prediction: Lazio vs AC Milan

Best odds: 19/20

Bookmaker:

Both Lazio and AC Milan will be eager to get back on track when they clash at Stadio Olimpico in Saturday night s Serie A showdown after suffering unexpected defeats last weekend. Lazio fell short against Udinese, while AC Milan were shocked by newly promoted Parma.

Marco Baroni s early tenure at Lazio began on a promising note with an opening-day win against Venezia, but hopes of building momentum were dashed by a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Udinese. Conceding a goal within the first five minutes and another shortly after …

Conte rues Napoli´s clinical edge but satisfied with Juventus point

Antonio Conte left Juventus moderately satisfied with Napoli s goalless draw on Saturday but stressed the need to make the most of attacking opportunities.

Napoli arrived in Turin on the back of a three-match winning streak in Serie A but fell short of capitalising on several good chances.

Conte s side came closest to snatching a winner, with Scott McTominay s long-range shot pushed away by Michele Di Gregorio in the first half before Romelu Lukaku failed to pounce on the rebound.

The former Inter, Chelsea and Tottenham head coach acknowledged a hard-fought point, though still saw room for improvement at Allianz Stadium.

I realise the difficulty of getting a draw away to Juventus, a team that was 18 points away from Napoli last season, Conte told DAZN.
